Whitehorse Correctional Centre

The Whitehorse Correctional Centre (WCC) is a multi-level territorial correctional facility for adults. When protection of society requires the incarceration of an individual, the Correctional Centre is designed to balance the safety of the public, staff and offenders with rehabilitation and healing.

Whitehorse Correctional Centre houses individuals:

  • Serving sentences of up to two years less a day
  • Remanded while awaiting charges
  • Who violate their parole
  • Serving out time on Federal sentences
  • Found not criminally responsible by order of the Yukon Review Board
  • On immigration holds

The goals of the Whitehorse Correctional Centre are to:

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for staff and inmates
  • Encourage inmates to take responsibility for their actions and actively earn their way back into the community
  • Minimize the detrimental effects of confinement
  • Provide inmates with access to educational, work, recreational and treatment programs that reduce their risk of recontact
  • Provide inmates with opportunities to develop and maintain healthy, supportive family and community relationships
