Whitehorse Correctional Centre

The Whitehorse Correctional Centre is a 85-bed multi-level Territorial institution which houses individuals under various legal and legislative acts.  The Whitehorse Correctional Centre was built in 1967 and is the only correctional facility currently operating in the Yukon Territory.  The majority of inmates are housed in a dormitory style living arrangement, with the exception of two celled units for high security inmates.

The facility is physically located approximately 5 kms north of the city centre on Range Rd, adjacent to the Yukon College property.

Individuals are housed at WCC for a variety of reasons:

  • Remanded while awaiting disposition of charges
  • Parole violations
  • Serving sentences of up to two years less a day
  • Serving out time on Federal sentences
  • Those in need of secure psychiatric care
  • People who are found not criminally responsible (by order of the Yukon Review Board)
  • Immigration holds

If you have experienced trauma as a result of a crime and need help, these people can help.
