Have you been affected by a crime? Do you need help supporting a victim of crime?

Victim Services provides help for victims dealing with a range of different crimes.

It does not matter whether the victim has reported the crime, a charge has been laid or if there has been a conviction. We provide services to all people affected by a crime.

What does Victim Services do?

Who can access Victim Services?

No 2 people affected by crime have the same experience. We recognize that everyone has their own support needs, and we're here to help you through a difficult time.

Victim Services can be accessed by:

  • victims of a crime;
  • witnesses of a crime;
  • friends and family members of a victim; and
  • service providers who support people affected by crime. 

When should you contact Victim Services?

You can contact us at any time – right after the crime occurs, or days, weeks or months later. It’s up to you, but getting in touch earlier means we can offer you more options.

Our offices are open 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. You can phone us or drop by (you do not need an appointment).

If it's an emergency, call your local RCMP detachment.

Is Victim Services confidential?

You're in control. Victim Services will not force you to do anything. We're here to listen to you and provide you with the information you need.

We will not discuss your situation with anyone else without your knowledge and permission. On occasion, law requires us to inform others.

No information concerning you will be released to anyone unless:

  • the court subpoenas information from us;
  • there's a threat that you may do harm to yourself or to someone else;
  • we believe there to be any recent real or suspected threat of child abuse, neglect or witness to violence; or
  • you sign and give us permission.
